A Sober Home should not be confused with a treatment facility. It is quite simply, a group home where people that are recovering from addiction can live drug and alcohol free.
Sober Homes generally do not offer detox, treatment or counseling. What they do offer is support in a safe, structured environment where people can learn, with others facing the same challenges, how to live a life free of addiction while working a 12-step program. While Sober Homes do have strict rules/guidelines (curfews, employment or school requirements, meeting requirements, random drug/alcohol tests), residents are offered considerable freedom and expected to be responsible for themselves. This environment can be extremely effective in successfully transitioning from a drug and alcohol treatment facility to living independently as a sober, productive individual.
